ADHD Evaluation And Treatment

ADHD Evaluation And Treatment

By the time parents and children come to us at TYAP, they may have received some type of ASD evaluation. Many have received a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other neurological or developmental difficulties.  Others may suspect a diagnosis but not yet have received a confirmation.

At TYAP, our evaluations aren’t just about reaching a diagnosis; they’re the first step in developing a comprehensive and highly individualized treatment plan for your child. This plan takes into account the unique needs, challenges, interests, and goals of your child and your family.

TYAP's comprehensive treatment programs are designed to provide each child with all the skills needed to be successful in all environments.

As part of our process, TYAP administers comprehensive psychological, neurological, developmental, and ASD evaluation. These evaluations are based on, or incorporate elements from, accepted gold-standard tests[JZ1] such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS). Our evaluations are comprehensive, and also include a Full Scale IQ test, such as the Wechsler, and and an academic assessment, such as the Woodcock-Johnson. At least one language measure is always included, such as the Comprehensive Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF), and/or Preschool Language Scale (PLS) to provide a full picture of cognitive functioning.

TYAP also offers more targeted evaluations for conditions such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, specific learning disability, and emotional disturbance.

TYAP also conducts full evaluations for adolescents and adults. These are individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each client. These evaluations may include IQ, academics, language, executive functioning, attention, personality traits, psychological functioning, and/ or many other options.

FAQ

Neurological disorders and developmental difficulties in children and adolescents may be comorbid with autism spectrum disorder, or they may exist independently. In either case, TYAP is committed to creating individualized treatment plans for children and adolescents using applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapies.
Standardized direct testing, observation, parent report data, and teacher report data are integrated in a thorough descriptive report, including specific treatment recommendations where appropriate. Feedback is presented in person, so that families have immediate access to assistance in interpreting the results and understanding how they can be used to positively influence treatment.
Treatment response monitoring refers to the way that TYAP monitors your child’s response to their individualized treatment plan. Step by step, your child’s responses to treatment are recorded and analyzed to understand their progress, challenges, and potential roadblocks, based on our expertise and experience.

Your child’s treatment plan will be adjusted according to their responses and the needs that those responses indicate. As your child grows and changes, their treatment plan will continuously evolve to meet their needs and facilitate their successes.
If your toddler-aged child (16-30 months) has not been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, but you are concerned about your child’s behavior, you may be interested in the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT-R) provided by AutismSpeaks.org. This is not a formal ASD evaluation but can be used to determine whether your child should be evaluated by a medical professional.
