Speech therapy for autism (and other neurological differences) is designed to help kids with ASD learn how to use language to communicate their needs and connect with others. In some cases, the goal may simply be to encourage the child to use words at all. More often, the focus is on teaching children to use language to build relationships.
We are proud to have a full-time speech-language pathologist on staff at TYAP that allows us to provide you and your child with a full range of ASD services under one roof.
Ms. Maureen Childs, M.S., CCC-SLP has a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Woman’s University. She’s worked with all age groups in a variety of settings, including school-based, skilled nursing rehabilitation, in-home, and in clinics. She’s also the Clinical Director of our Houston location!
The research is clear: the earlier a child starts speech therapy, the more effective it will be. Not every child with ASD needs speech therapy, but if you’re concerned about your child’s communication and language abilities, then contact us today to set up an intake appointment.
On top of on-site speech therapy services, we also have a day treatment program, a parent-directed program, and a feeding program, among other services. All of our treatment programs are individualized to your child’s needs, and are directed towards helping your child be successful in all environments and settings.
