Speech Services at Texas Young Autism Project

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other related developmental disorders can affect children’s communication and language skills in many different ways. Some children on the spectrum struggle to recognize social cues, while others don’t use verbal communication at all.

At the Texas Young Autism Project, we are proud to have a full-time speech-language pathologist on-staff to provide speech services and programming to our clients. Speech therapy for autism at TYAP is highly individualized to every child, just like all of the services we provide.

TYAP's comprehensive treatment programs are designed to provide each child with all the skills needed to be successful in all environments.

What Is Speech Therapy for Autism?

Speech specialist and happy girl learning alphabet
Speech therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on helping people with language and communication skills. Speech-language pathologists (sometimes referred to as speech therapists or SLPs) work with anyone who has trouble communicating, from people who stutter or lisp to children with autism spectrum disorder who are non-verbal.

Our speech-language pathologist assesses each client individually to discover their speech and language needs, and then creates a personalized plan full of activities to help advance their communication skills.

For example, depending on the client’s specific challenges and needs, speech therapy might include facial massage to relax facial muscles, songs to teach rhyming, or vocabulary therapy. Services can be delivered one-on-one or in a group.

FAQ

Speech therapy for autism (and other neurological differences) is designed to help kids with ASD learn how to use language to communicate their needs and connect with others. In some cases, the goal may simply be to encourage the child to use words at all. More often, the focus is on teaching children to use language to build relationships.
We are proud to have a full-time speech-language pathologist on staff at TYAP that allows us to provide you and your child with a full range of ASD services under one roof.
