Family counseling is available to help siblings and parents learn how to better communicate with each other and the child through treatment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is also provided for higher-functioning children who would benefit from additional help in dealing with anxiety stemming from changes in routine or specific social problems.

Why Does TYAP Offer Family Counseling for ASD?

We understand the challenges a family faces when one or more of their children has ASD or other developmental difficulties. That’s why we provide family autism counseling to help siblings and parents develop the skills to better communicate with the child receiving treatment, and with each other, both during the treatment course and moving forward.

Family plays a vital role in the development and well-being of children with autism spectrum disorders. To assist children and young adults with ASD, the National Institute for Health Care and Excellence (NICE) specifically supports interventions that “increase parents’ … understanding of, and sensitivity and responsiveness to, the child or young person’s patterns of communication and interaction”

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychological treatment that focuses on changing thinking patterns to alleviate a wide range of problems, such as:
  • depression,
  • alcohol and drug use
  • eating disorders
  • marital problems
  • anxiety
  • severe mental illness
All therapy services are provided by PhD-level clinical psychologists and supervised doctoral interns. Our providers at TYAP are applied behavior analysis (ABA) professional collaboration participants. Our clinic has successfully completed an annual program quality peer review through the professional organization LSABA, a regional chapter of the ABA support committee.
